Professional Development Training

Air Force ROTC offers a number of great activities for Cadets to explore during their summer vacation.  Here is some information on few of them. To see the most current programs offered and gather some more information click on this link to visit to the Air Force ROTC programs page.

Rising Sophomore Program
Rising Sophomore (RSP) is a more in depth, three week PDT, aimed at actually allowing cadets to experience how a real base operates. During RSP you will shadow officers from different career fields, learn from an actual curriculum, get tours of the base, and get hands-on experiences with Air Force personnel and their jobs.

Operation Air Force
Operation Air Force (OPAF) is very similar to RSP, but you usually spend a majority of the time teamed up with an officer from your chosen career field, rather than getting a taste of everything.

Engineering Programs
Advanced Course in Engineering (ACE) is a 70-day PDT at the Rome Labs in New York. It is focused on cyber-warfare, however it is very physically demanding. Cadets can also experience civil engineering firsthand with the Field Engineering Readiness Lab (FERL), which encompasses everything from computer-aided design to operating heavy construction equipment. FERL is a five week program that is split between an active-duty Air Force Base and the Academy.

Space Orientation
Space Orientation (SO) is another excellent program that gives AES 300s an opportunity to spend three weeks at the Air Force Academy training with $3M satellites.

Cultural Immersion Programs
There is also the Cadet Cultural Immersion Program (CCIP), which allows AES 100s and 300s to travel to a foreign country for two weeks so they can be exposed to new cultures and people. Specifically, Cadets will attend seminars, briefings, conferences, work on different research projects, take educational tours, and visit foreign military academies. AES 300s can also opt to do the Cadet Summer Language Immersion Program (CSLIP, formerly known as Foreign Language Immersion), which is almost the same as the CCIP, but it is twice as long.

Nursing Programs
Nursing students can spend four weeks gaining experience at Wilford Medical Hall at Lackland AFB with the Nurse Orientation Program (NOP).
