Uniform Wear Guide: Chapter 1
This guide supplements Air Force ROTC Instruction 36-2008.
Introduction
Proper wear of the Air Force ROTC uniform is an integral part of the training you will receive on the road to becoming an officer in the United States Air Force. As a cadet in Air Force ROTC, the manner in which you wear the uniform is a constant reflection of the Air Force. While a well-kept cadet creates a respectful image, improper uniform wear creates an undesirable picture of our Air Force. With this in mind, always remember to look your best while you are wearing any Air Force uniform. Also keep in mind that public displays of affection while in uniform are unacceptable. This includes hand holding, kissing and hugging.
I. Authorization for Uniform Wear
Students who wish to join Air Force ROTC must first go to the administration office located on the third floor of the Social Sciences Building. Here you will be weighed, and if you meet weight standards you will be given authorization for uniform wear. Those who do not meet the standards will not be given authorization until they are met. Uniform wear authorization is subject to the discretion of the professor of aerospace studies (PAS). Cadets who do not portray the proper military image will be asked not to wear the uniform. This may be for failure to comply with weight, grooming or wear standards set forth by Air Force ROTC directives contained in this guide.
II. Getting Your Uniform
After getting authorization from the admininstration office, you will obtain your uniform at the uniform office, located on the third floor of the Social Sciences Building, during specified hours or by appointment. If a uniform cannot be issued at the time of your visit, a mutually convenient date will be set for uniform pickup.
III. Before Wearing the Uniform
- Make sure the uniform fits. All parts of the uniform should fit comfortably, yet properly. Baggy pants or oversized shirts and coats will not be tolerated. Tailoring of the uniform is the financial responsibility of each cadet (check the yellow pages for area tailors). Pay particular attention to the fit of the shoes, as you will be wearing them for marching as well as every day. Shoes cannot be exchanged unless they are paid for.
- Thoroughly check your uniform for any holes, tears or missing buttons. Do not sign out any clothes that are not in good shape, as you are personally responsible for them and their care.
IV. Returning the Uniform if You Drop
If any cadet decides to separate from the Air Force ROTC program, it is his/her responsibility to return their uniform to the uniform office. All uniforms must be dry cleaned and returned in a plastic cleaner's bag. If uniforms are not returned or returned dirty, the student's grades will be withheld.
